The Oystercatcher, another wading bird, can often be seen along our coasts and the best place to observe them is on the rocks, usually between the high and low water mark where they will likely be feeding on limpets, mussels, buckies or small molluscs. They nest in small “scrapes” in the ground and lay up to four eggs however their preferred nesting sites are normally near rivers or estuaries and for that reason it’s very unlikely you will see them nesting around our coast.
