Portlethen Village in the 1880's or 1890's.

The row of houses in the left hand side of this photograph no longer exist. In fact they had disappeared by the early 20th century.

John Craig at 37 Portlethen Village

Late 1800's.

Nancy's Eppie, 1890's

Nancy's Eppie stayed at 16 Portlethen Village (a house that is no longer stading) and was married to "Aul Oan". She was the local midwife.

"Auld Cushnie", late 19th Century

A familiar portrait of Alexander Lees "Auld Cushnie". He stayed at 44 Skateraw. His son would later marry into one of the Craig families and move to 37 Portlethen Village.

Bella never got married and lived at 37 Portlethen Village all her life.

Muckle Shore, 1911.

Note the salmon bothy in the lower left hand corner. The walls of this bothy were still standing until the 1990's.

As it appeared in the 1950's and before there were any street names.

At the forefront (towards bottom left) of this photograph you will see the barometer, a legacy of the storms of the mid 19th century. The barometer has been on this site since the 1840's and was used by village fishermen to determine the likely weather conditions before they went to sea.

Old Well at 43 Portlethen Village, 2003.

There were at least three of these wells dotted around Portlethen Village over 100 years ago. This is the only one remaining and it worked up until the 1980's.
