Friday's

It is believed that Friday is the worst possible day to start a journey on a boat and no enterprise can succeed which commences on that day. This, I believe, is related to the crucifixion of Christ which occurred on a Friday.

I recall one of the Portlethen salmon fishers warning me, as I loaded up my creels into the boat one Friday afternoon for the first time that season, that I should think again and wait until the morn’. I seem to remember that it turned out to be a particularly good season that year.
