This is an islet that is about 100 yards distant from the
outermost “knap”. You’ll possibly see this listed as Craig Lonny on some
maps but the name Isa Wood is a local one, probably given in tribute to
a Downies fisherman.
This particular rock is a favourite place for seals to
bask. In this general area you will see quite a few grey seals swimming
in the bay or resting on Craig Lonny or on some of the other nearby
rocks. The other favoured area for seals appears to be Craigmarroin,
near Portlethen Village where you can occasionally see upwards of twenty
seals at one time.
